To schedule an inspection, please contact our Community Risk Reduction Division at (831) 685-6698. This Division covers all inspection needs for both Aptos/La Selva and Central Fire Protection Districts.

District personnel assist business owners and homeowners in obtaining compliance with fire code requirements for the protection of life and property.

Priority Inspections

Occupancies with higher fire and life safety hazards as well as all businesses new to the community are inspected by Community Risk Reduction staff. Examples of the types of occupancies inspected by fire prevention officers include:

  • Assemblies
  • Hazardous materials facilities
  • Care facilities
  • Factories
  • Restaurants
  • Schools
  • Senior Citizen housing
  • Other buildings that could pose significant risks to its occupants or the public.

Defensible Space Inspections

Our Defensible Space program runs through late Spring/early Summer each year. Inspectors go door-to-door to identify potential fire hazards around residential properties such as overgrown brush, overhanging branches or low-hanging tree limbs. In 2018, the District inspected 1,441 residences in designated areas within the District’s jurisdiction for compliance with rural fire safety standards.
